Direct Care Worker

Qualifications:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be over 18.
  • Must have CPR and first aid training
  • Must be able to write well to meet documentation requirements.
  • Must be able to cook, clean, do laundry and other housekeeping jobs as required.
  • Must be able to attend to residents’ personal care which includes bathing, grooming, toileting, and one-on-one attention.
  • The job is physically demanding. Some residents need help getting in and out of beds, chairs, and bathtubs.
  • Having a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate or similar education is preferred.
  • Having previous experience in the health care field is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Job Duties:

  1. Will maintain a daily sign-in and sign-out register.
  2. Will maintain a daily log of resident activities.
  3. Will adhere to and enforce Altum Care Homes rules and regulations established for residents.
  4. Will maintain a clean, sanitary atmosphere in the home.
  5. Will never leave the facility unattended. If relief is more than half an hour late, the staff on duty will call the House Manager, Assistant House Manager, or Administrator for replacement. One staff person must be in the home at all times.
  6. Will prepare meals in a timely and appealing manner. Staff will document when residents refuses to eat two consecutive meals or meal substitutes.
  7. Will conduct and supervise monthly fire drills and advise all new residents of emergency exits. Staff will check battery in smoke detectors monthly.
  8. Will maintain an adequate temperature setting and ventilation within the facility.
  9. Will document all incidents within a timely manner on an Incident Report Form.
  10. Distribute medication exactly as prescribed by residents’ physicians.
  11. Supervise residents on planned outings, schedule and make sure residents keep all scheduled appointments.
  12. Staff must keep all resident records current.
  13. Inform the House Manager, Assistant House Manager, or Administrator of any condition or situation that threatens the health, safety, or welfare of the residents.
  14. Secure the home at the beginning and end of each shift.
  15. Collect laundry as needed and make sure all residents have clean towels and linen.
  16. Assist residents with bathing and dressing as needed.
  17. Assist Case Manager with any program implementation for residents.
